Interventional Radiology
Board Certified

Dr. Openshaw has been practicing Interventional Radiology at St. Joseph Hospital and CHOC since 1993. He chose a career in this field after witnessing a variety of procedures (angiograms, biliary drainages, etc) that his dad underwent. Prior to this personal experience, he did not know much about interventional radiology. “It’s a fascinating field with explosive growth especially due to minimally invasive procedures”. Over the years he has acquired extensive experience in all aspects of interventional radiology. He is excited about new developments for the treatment of cancer and vascular disease.

Dr. Openshaw graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, with a B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering. He earned his medical degree from the same institution, where he was awarded the Dean’s Award for Excellence and was President of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then completed an Internal Medicine internship at the University of California, Irvine, followed by a Radiology residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Following his residency, Dr. Openshaw completed a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis, Missouri.

When he’s not working, Dr. Openshaw enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. They participate in numerous sporting activities including swimming, playing tennis and skiing.
